Substack is for finance and investing writers
The conversation with investing, finance, economics, and crypto writers is happening here
People have been blogging about stocks and investing for a couple of decades. But very few could figure out how to make money online. The paths available were to grind at institutions under regulatory constraint or land one of the scarce finance journalism jobs in a melting industry. The final option: cobble together your own blog, which means more time spent learning tech than covering investing, finance, economics, or crypto.
“I can still remember standing in the kitchen in March 2020 and watching the first dollar I made come through from sharing my own research. It was a crazy feeling,” Conor MacNeil recalls. Instead of wasting time assembling his own software to host his publication Investment Talk, Substack offered Conor a space where he could focus on his own expertise in finance and make money doing so.
The first wave of investing, finance, economics, and crypto writers on Substack, like Conor, have scratched the surface of what’s possible: a former small-cap portfolio manager now has a media empire covering the stock market and crypto, two ex-Bloomberg journalists expand what they can report on by publishing independently, and anonymous writers have accumulated thousands of paid subscribers to support their work.
How did these writers succeed?
When Edwin Dorsey was gearing up to go paid on Substack, he told us, “I reached out to all of the big Substack authors and asked them for their advice.” This advice shaped his strategy and, with time, has led him to the top of the finance leaderboard.
The goal of Investing on Substack is to bring you the best advice from Substack writers in investing, finance, economics, and crypto—writers who help their readers understand and make money. We’ll spotlight insights from leading and emerging Substack writers and, together we’ll learn as a community. Think of it as one big insider group chat of writers you can turn to for questions and to seek guidance.

Love it and thanks team! I have been writing about financial well-being as well. It took me years to realise finance is so much more than money itself. Look forward to reading your works!
